Luxury Bed and Breakfast in Breathtaking South Herefordshire Countryside
Dippersmoor Manor is set on top of a knoll outside the village of Kilpeck at the end of the Golden Valley in South Herefordshire. The house comprises of an early pele tower and a cruck beam section. The rest is a fascinating combination of early Elizabethan, Tudor, Jacobean and 19th century architectural styles. The house is approached by a long drive with an avenue of poplar trees. It is an idyllic and rural sitution.
Dippersmoor Manor has been the family home of Hexie and Amanda Millais for the last 30 years. The creation of the one and a half acre garden and maintenance of this very unusual house have been their life's work. B & B guests have exclusive use of both the oak-paneled sitting room with its cosy atmosphere and open fire, and the dining room which used to be an old bacon curing room. We make full use of inglenook open fireplaces and a wood burning stove supplemented by central heating.
The garden offers a vine-covered pergola to sit under in the summer with breathtaking views towards the Black Mountains. Bed & breakfast guests are welcome to explore the lovingly tended gardens, which include a new knot garden, kitchen garden, pleached lime trees, and a variety of unusual climbers and shrubs. The house is surrounded by over 200 acres of farmland and woods, which provide opportunities for some spectacular walks with panoramic views. Depending on the time of year, these might include routes through bluebell woods and blossoming orchards. The village of Kilpeck, with its world famous Norman church (as described in the Simon Jenkins's 1000 Best Churches) is a five minute walk from the house. There is a pub in the village.
We are in the heart of the superb walking and cycling country of The Marches and Offa's Dyke, and there are many historic castles, National Trust properties, gardens and churches to visit in the area. Hereford is only 8 miles away, with its famous Mappa Mundi and unique Chained Library. Hay-on-Wye is a short drive away at the other end of the scenic Golden Valley. Hay is internationally known for its literary festival, which takes place in May.
